PLEASE BUY ONE BALE OF HAY FOR THE SALT RIVER WILD HORSES Arizona has had a one of the driest winters in history and we are in a record breaking drought with no relief in sight. While it is normal for wild horses to have a skinny season and a fat season, this drought has caused extreme conditions and extreme hardship on the Salt River wild horses, which we have been monitoring closely. The lack of ground cover cannot be blamed on the horses themselves; it has very little to do with horses and everything to do with the lack

Improving Safety on Bush Highway

Improving Safety on Bush Highway
At 7.30pm Saturday March 24th, we were called to one of the most horrific horse/vehicle accidents we've ever been called to. We immediately called it in to MCSO who were on the scene quickly. The people in the vehicle, who were physically ok, as well as the witnesses, were as horrified and shocked as we were, at the sight of the poor mare and her unborn foal. The driver did not want to hit a horse, they just had no visibility and no warning. The horse was not ok, she passed. We will spare the very sad details. This was

FOAL AND ITS RESCUERS RESCUED!

FOAL AND ITS RESCUERS RESCUED!
We received an emergency call on Thursday after noon March 22nd that a foal was in possible trouble in the water. Our volunteers Bren and Ryan Schultz arrived on the scene within ten minutes and were able to save the foal from drowning just as it was floating away and dissapearing under water. SRP had just released 800 cpu from the Stewart Mountain Dam and the current proved to much for the couple trying to hang on to the foal. They could not make it back to shore. Simone who had arrived at the scene called for help from MCSO.

We want to congratulate our national coalition partner the American Wild Horse Campaign, as they fought tooth and nail for this in Congress. Onward to passing the omnibus bill and cheers to a more humane future for all!

Red Beauty Rescue

Red Beauty Rescue
For months we have been monitoring Red Beauty, and with dread, watched his condition go from bad to worse. Once a shiny red roan, after several bouts of colic late last year, he never fully recovered and is now in emaciated condition. We've been getting a lot of calls on him as he made a habit of hanging out right by the side of the road at Phon D Sutton. Our volunteers have checked on him every time you've called us and guided him off of the road back to the river. While we usually remain hopeful for recovery (since

BREAKING NEWS:  President’s Budget proposes to murder wild horses.
The budget, if approved, will allow for the murder and slaughter of Americas wild horses and burros on a national scale! The Salt River Wild Horse Management Group is once again outraged! While it may not affect the Salt River wild horses directly, this budget will put all wild horses and burros under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in great harm. The BLM manages approximately 60,000 to 70,000 wild horses left in the wild and 45,000 of them that are stuck in holding pens. We consider those wild horses and burros just as valuable and cherished
