🐎✨ Did you know today is National I Love Horses Day?
Let’s talk about why the Salt River Wild Horses are so loved—and yet, also discriminated against, scapegoated, and devalued by some. Then, tell us in the comments: Who do YOU stand with?
These horses are more than just breathtaking silhouettes against a desert sunset or graceful reflections in the Salt River. They are living legends—survivors of centuries of persecution. Though still targeted today, they are undeniable icons of the American West, and overwhelmingly beloved by the public.
So why do some people try to rewrite their story? Why are they so intent on devaluing, scapegoating, and blaming these horses for environmental harm? The answer lies in ulterior motives—power (to obtain the contract to manage the horses) and greed (to remove and sell them) and hate (either against us or the horses).
📸 In this photo, Iris lies peacefully beside her father, Orion—a rare moment of rest and trust. Their love is visible. Their emotions are real. This is what people feel when they witness wild horses: magic Their deep connections. Their lifelong bonds. Their herd dynamics and emotional intelligence are impossible to ignore.
That’s why these horses draw visitors from around the world, fuel our local economies, inspire art and education, and stir something deep in the hearts of all who see them.
But they’re not just beautiful—they’re beneficial:
- 🌿 They reseed native plants
- 🔥 Reduce wildfire risk
- 🌵 Help sustain desert biodiversity
- 🦶 And do it all while asking only for the right to live here peacefully.
They don’t just belong here—they make this place whole. They make Arizona whole.
On this day of love for horses, we ask you to stand proudly with the Salt River herd. They are not ruining anything. They are not a problem to “fix.” They are a gift to protect—for us, and for future generations.
Tell us: Why do YOU love the Salt River Wild Horses?
