Meet our newest Salt River colt — the miracle baby of Moonshadow ( Brighteyes x Mick) and Garrett, (Sapphire x Diego) already showing the spark and confidence of a future lead stallion. We need a name for him envisioning that future!

We know it feels scary to get attached… to hope for his future, all while knowing we have lost too many to mountain lions, but how can we not? He’s already captured our hearts, so we go on, with great hopes for him. Statistically, he has a good chance and also, this band does not often travel to the river where the threat is statistically greater.

This little guy received a little help from us in bonding with his rightful mother, and its from the volunteers and people who helped, these name ideas came… and now YOU get to help decide! (P.S. Unfortunately the name Shadow is already taken or we would use it, likewise, we already have a Twilight, an Eclipse, and Moon was a stallion of a different bloodline.)
So we have narrowed it down a bit to:

THE FOLLOWING NAMES:

1. Moonfire— meaning: born from the moons calm light but fire that refuses to fade.
2. Jericho — strong, manly and resilient, meaning city of the moon or place of fragrance and lush vegetation (lush vegetation, yes )
3. Apollo — name of the greek god of the sun and of healing, also bright and born to lead.
4. Grayson – means “son of the gray one” combining gray mom and his dad’s name, G for Garrett as his simple theme is G names.
5. Samson — a symbol of power and determination known in the Bible for extraordinary strength.
6. Starshadow — a modern invented name combining star and shadow.
7. Morningstar — a modern invented name and cosmic nod.
