Helping Wild Horses Find Their Way Home 🐎
On October 1st, we were contacted by the City of Fountain Hills to assist with a group of wild horses from the Fort McDowell Reservation. Recent rains had damaged fencing in the area, and the horses found their way into town—making a local soccer field their new night time hangout spot. A local had let us know a day prior.
Maintaining strong relationships with our community—and doing right by these beautiful animals—is incredibly important to us.
After receiving a location pin, we quickly located the horses in a scenic wash near some nearby homes. Later that night, we got a call on our hotline phone from a local supporter reporting the horses were in the park, which is near Saguaro Blvd. We headed back out and stayed until traffic had died down to help keep the area safe. With the support of the community and MCSO, we took turns monitoring them overnight to ensure their safety.
The next morning, we returned and marked the downed fence with caution tape. But the horses returned to the soccer field that night again. So we took shifts again with locals.
The next day we checked various fencelines, and thanks to a local’s social media post, we found the horses again—this time in another wash behind homes. That wash led us right back to the same area we had previously taped (it was no longer up). With some calm coordination, we were able to gently guide the horses back through the broken section of fence. We then cleaned the area of debris and rebuilt the fence using the materials we had available.
Today, we’re happy to report we saw the band in their home on Fort McDowell land, and despite more recent rains, the fence in the wash is still holding strong.
A huge thank you to the Fountain Hills community for your vigilance, support, and compassion.
It takes a village—and you showed up.
