This July 4th feels like déjà vu — a fight we’ve had to wage too many times already, for the freedom of the Salt River wild horses, our historic irreplaceable American icons.

Even with state protections in place (ARS 3-1491) and despite our proven, humane population management, the Arizona Department of Agriculture (AZDA) is still planning to remove far too many of these historic wild horses from their designated rightful home — and may even turn their management over to a roundup contractor!
We’re currently waiting for AZDA’s new RFP (Request for Proposals) to be released — and yes, we will submit our bid. But that’s only part of the battle.

Here’s the hard truth:

Our monthly donations have dropped dramatically — not because the need is gone, but because of vicious misinformation, online attacks, and anti-wild horse propaganda.

We receive no government grants, no big corporate sponsors.

We rely entirely on you — so that the horses can rely on us.

To protect the Salt River herd, we are launching a simple, powerful campaign:

For just $25/month, you can become a Salt River Horse Guardian — supporting one wild horse directly, and making sure we can continue to fight for them all.

You can pick your own most beloved horse and it’s first come first serve, or we will assign you one. Your guardianship helps us:

🐴 Provide feed to that horse at one of our 4 feed stations.

(So no one can claim they’re starving and must be removed “for their own good.” We need 27 bales a day now to get them through the drought!!!!)

👀 Monitor and protect that horse, no matter where it is or what happens to it.

📣 Educate, advocate, and litigate on behalf of that horse (That means outreach, promotional materials, and legal fees.)

🏞️ Make sanctuary backup plans — including well water and fencing.

(Because if any horses must be removed, we want to do it ourselves — humanely and with families kept together.)

In return, when you become a monthly guardian, we will send you a photo of the horse you’re helping to protect. You’ll be part of its story — and part of our fight for its future.
