📰 Salt River wild horses, their past and their future.

The shape of Red Mountain is unmistakable, when gazing downstream on the lower Salt. This 1957 photograph by Harry Vroman, published in @ArizonaHighways, shows wild horses in the Tonto National Forest in the exact same area, where you can still find them roaming today! It also shows there is no damage to the environment, in fact these horses have lived in balance with their environment, for many centuries.

As most of you know, the only reason we can still enjoy these historic icons here today, is because of our prompt action taken in 2015, when the Salt River wild horses were about to be removed by the Forest Service, and the remarkable response from the Arizona public and it’s officials, that ensued. You, our dear reader, were probably part of it.

So it’s not an exaggeration to say that we are very lucky to still be able to find them today, in this exact same beautiful spot on the river, …but please don’t take it for granted. We cannot guarantee a bright future for the Salt River wild horses in 2025.

Ending this year, we actually don’t know where things stand at all. Even while the CBD lawsuit against the horses was dismissed 3 times, for good reason, the battle for this herds survival is not, and might not ever be over.

There is no empirical science proving that the horses ruin the environment and there is no legal requirement for the Forest Service to remove Salt River horses. However, that does not mean that they won’t.

It is hard to make lasting change and that’s why we cannot do it without you.
Regardless of how hard it gets, or how long it takes, we will continue to fight for better treatment of wild horses here, and everywhere.

Please stay tuned for important updates in 2025! In order to get them, you have to like, and prioritize our page, because otherwise you might miss it!

Thank you for caring about the past, as well as about the future of the Salt River wild horses!

To unbridled happiness in 2025 and beyond!

Ever so sincerely, SRWHMG.
