ABC15 Arizona: Wild horse, burro advocates share concern over BLM population control plans
There’s a newspiece out on ABC15 Arizona this morning. It highlights the 2025 BLM budget that proposes 20 million dollars for permanent sterilization of wild horses. We want to highlight the night and day difference between permanent sterilization and humane fertility control. Sterilization ruins natural herd behavior, plus there is a 25% deathrate in mares in the wild after ovariectomy surgery and it puts the viability of herds is at stake.
Our PZP fertility control program accomplishes herd reduction also, but preserves herd dynamics, and does not pose a risk to horses’ health or the viability of the herd. That’s a huge difference we want congress and the public to understand.
We support humane dartible PZP fertility control. Thank you ABC15.
