A prayer for wild horse families everywhere

Let’s join in this prayer for wild horse families everywhere tonite and also for the people who love them.

Two lawsuits are on the right track—Heber wild horse TRO which includes all of the Apache Sitgreaves, and Carter reservoir, both great wins. One lawsuit was unforunately lost for Montgomery Pass, and, heartbreakingly, enormous roundups are on the way at Mono Lake and Callahan, and lets not forget about Australia, boycott Australia! And ofcourse we have our own issues here at the Salt River, which we are trying to work out in our own ways. Please stay tuned.

All of these actions show you one glaring thing and let there be no mistake about it: the U.S. Forest

Service and the Bureau of Land Management continue to demonstrate extraordinary hostility in their actions, toward America’s iconic historic wild horses—even while they are the very agencies charged with their protection.

Even despite the fact that there is a proven, humane way to manage wild horses all along.

Even despite the fact that wild horses provide tremendous economic value through tourism, contribute to wildfire risk reduction and help disperse live plant, grass and tree seeds across the landscape.

We commend every organization, advocate, volunteer, and attorney fighting the good fight.

We encourage the USFS and the BLM to turn course, while they still can.

We commented on the programmatic BLM EA this week, that continuing the cruel roundups while failing to use humane fertility control, is like continuing to mop the floor while failing to turn the faucet off. We hope an analogy might hit home with someone somewhere higher up?

Manage all wild horses humanely—everywhere.
(Because its NOT that hard)

Tonight, while Salt River wild horses are still peacefully sleeping under mesquite trees, we are praying for the wild horse families whose lives are about to be turned upside down. 🐎💔

This prayer is by this Mustang Life. Let’s join.

Tonight, I pray for the Mono Lake wild horses.

For every mare running beside her foal.
For every stallion searching for his family.
For every old horse who has known this land through
seasons beyond our own.

May fear be brief.
May suffering be little.
May courage find every heart.

I pray for the Utu Utu Gwaitu Benton Paiute Tribe,
whose relationship with these horses and this land
reminds us that stewardship begins with reverence.

I pray for the people standing witness, carrying both
love and heartbreak.

May those making decisions remember that these are not numbers, but living being with families, memory, and a rightful place in the American West.

And may the spirit of this ancient landscape remain
stronger than the machines that pass through it.

May compassion prevail over convenience.
May wisdom prevail over power.
May all beings be wild and free.

Amen.
