One of our Salt River stallions, Tristan, disappeared for a while to the reservation. Then a week or so ago, here he comes back to the river, with 3 new mares and a yearling! He is so proud of his ladies, but sadly they are not part of the Salt River herd and they are not allowed to stay, because only documented Salt River wild horses can live here, per AZDA and Forest Service. On top of that, of course they are all pregnant and we are already in trouble w the Forest Service, for having 4 foals in 2024.

So the round pen was set up by AZDA to catch the rez mares, and we have asked to try it our way first, since it’s going to be done anyway, and we would rather do it kind, patient and careful. We do not know what their future holds, but perhaps we can have a hand in a happy ending for all. To stay tuned for updates, click “see first” on our page.
