Batman’s Journey

For those who’ve been asking about Batman — here’s an update from 4 years ago: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17jawNasUz/

When we rescued Batman from the Tonto National Forest, he was about 20 years old and dangerously emaciated. He had declined in the wild because of teeth and hoof issues, to the point that he simply couldn’t kerp up with his band anymore or eat enough to sustain himself — even though the rest of the Salt River wild horses were doing fine.

Once he was in our loving care:
✨ We fixed his teeth so he could eat properly again
✨ We treated stubborn hoof canker sores
✨ He received a specially formulated diet to keep weight on
✨ He got the comfort, rest, and peace he deserved

Instead of a slow starvation, Batman was given four good, peaceful years with us — eating 3 times a day, resting, and enjoying a leisurely life on his terms.

Sadly, after the canker was finally under control his laminitus became more severe and it was unfixable. We fought for him with everything we had… but ultimately had to let him go. It was one of the hardest decisions, made out of love and respect.

Please join us in sending hugs to our caretakers who cared for him so well and loved him so much.

We do not regret rescuing Batman — may he run forever free
