Champ’s band and Gizmo’s band are crossing the river together.

A band is a deeply bonded family of horses with a hierarchic structure in which each horse has its place within the band, be it a lead position, a middle position or a follow/ submissive position. The band always has at least one lead stallion, but can have a lieutenant stallion, and sometimes even a third stallion who will defend the band.

Wild horses form deep friendships with each other, but individual bands can form friendships with each other as well. Bands can travel together for a while, and sometimes even for years. Each band stallion remains in charge of his own family, but voluntarily forms a larger group, because there is safety in numbers.

Even while there are not many predators left, horses remain a pray animal and are always wary of any danger in their environment.Wild horse bands manage to stay together every minute of every day, in practically the same formation.

For comparison, imagine going on a shopping trip with your wife and kids of different ages, maybe some siblings, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins plus grandma, and you bring along your friend and his family, -without losing anyone- ..and the shopping trip never ends.
