Clarification: SRWHMG Has Not Endorsed This Political Ad
While we appreciate both Republicans and Democrats wanting to fight for the Salt River wild horses, we have to clarify that we have not endorsed this ad featuring our president Simone’s face, claiming that Governor Katie Hobbs will eliminate the Salt River wild horses. The ad was paid for by turning point pac.
The footage featuring Simone was taken from a news piece when we strongly disagreed with the first RFP written by Katie Hobbs’ Agriculture Department (AZDA). However, since then, Governor Katie Hobbs did listen to the public, increased the goal population for the Salt River wild horses from 120 to 170, and funded a study on genetic diversity, which starts next week.
Our issue enjoys bipartisan support, for which we are very thankful. We also stand for the truth, so here are the facts:
– Under Governor Katie Hobbs, the end population goal in five years will be 170 horses.
– A genetic study will be conducted to ensure genetic viability.
– Removals of approximately 20 to 25 horses per year will begin in 2028.
While we genuinely appreciate that Republicans are coming out strong for wild horses, we do not have confirmation from either candidate for governor that they would stop removals and give us more time to reduce the herd through natural attrition and fertility control alone.
We just wanted to clarify this. Thank you. This was an official statement from the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group
