Moonfire survived his first 104° day!

Well Moonfire survived his first 104° day—and the poor guy still has his wintercoat on!Even while temps of 118 are not weird in our neck of the woods in the summer, triple digit temps this early are an all time record and it felt insane! ☀️ Getting “used to it” is really a thing, both for the horses and for us!

But Moonfire is built for it; many centuries of survival of the fittest have made Salt River wild horses some of the toughest in the world. If a Salt River horse couldn’t handle the heat, it simply didn’t survive to pass on its genes—and that resilience and heat adaptation runs through this herd today.

Nevertheless we’re keeping a close eye on our only surviving 2025 foal, and he handled it like a champ! Stay safe out there, everyone—humans are not made for 104° heat !
