Our volunteers make us proud 💛 Every. Single. Day. 💛

Before most people have had their first cup of coffee, they’ve already been miles deep into the river, lifting hay bales, checking fences, and watching over every wild horse in the Salt River herd. 🐎🌊

Our volunteers make us proud

💛 Every. Single. Day. 💛

Here is something a volunteer wrote and you can feel the passion

They are….

They are up by 3:30 to be at the river by 5:00 to check all the fencing for damage and make sure gates are closed before the public arrives

They are picking up trash along the river and in recreational areas

They are keeping their watch for dumped domesticated animals like; dogs, cats, chickens, pigs, cows, goats, turtles and even domestic horses. It happens all too often

They are watching for wild fires- many have been first noticed by them

They are educating the public about safely observing the wild horses

They are driving to their property for rescued horses to pick up the hay truck before the sun comes up

They are driving from feed station to feed station to lift 100lb bales and disperse hay to horses during times of drought

They are monitoring each and every horse for injuries and disease

They are darting mares with humane birth control to keep the population manageable

They are kayaking and paddle boarding in the river to monitor horses

They are being called out to assist in emergencies at all hours of the day and night

They are hiking miles and miles to find an injured horse

They are taking care of the horses at their property

They are fundraising because they don’t get a dime from the state or federal government to do their work

They are grieving when they have to say goodbye to a horse

They are celebrating when a horse recovers from an injury or when a new foal is born

They are in love with each and every one of the horses they care for

They are worried that these horses will be taken away from the only home they have ever known

They are worried these horses’ families will be torn apart

They are grateful to everyone who supports these horses

They are doing all of this- every day

They are the volunteers of the
Salt River Wild Horse Management Group
