STOP — The future of the Salt River wild horses will be decided this Wed or Thursday! 🚨 Breaking!

SB1199 passed the Arizona State House today with a supermajority. Now it still has to pass the AZ Senate, but the legislative session ends this Friday,(Sine Die), so there is very little time!

This critical bill would place a 3-year moratorium on the planned removals of Salt River wild horses, giving the AZDA and scientists time to complete studies on the herd’s genetic diversity, to determine whether a population target of 120 horses would risk eventual extinction.

SB1199 also adds a critical protection that the current Salt River Horse Act does not provide: it prohibits Salt River wild horses from being sent to slaughter even after they are no longer officially classified as Salt River horses.

The bill is basically asking Arizona to “hold our horses” for three years while the science is completed. Is that too much to ask to make doubly sure that future generations can still experience these iconic wild horses?

Without passage of this bill within the next 2 days, 25 Salt River wild horses are scheduled to be removed this September, -by us, SRWHMG, -under our contract. And don’t get us wrong, we will remove them, because we committed to it, and because they will be safe forever with us.
