The Flower Girls

At SRWHMG Rescue Facility, we have a very special group of volunteers we lovingly call The Flower Girls.

They aren’t famous singers or fancy gardeners. Their kind of magic is much simpler—and so much more important.

Every week, these amazing women give their time, love, and energy to chop hay into smaller, softer pieces and prepare alfalfa flowers for our senior horses—Shadowfax, Lady, and Red.

For a young, healthy horse, a handful of hay is just dinner.

But for an old horse whose teeth aren’t what they used to be, that chopped hay can mean everything.

It means a meal they can actually eat.

It means a full belly.

It means comfort.

And most importantly, it means knowing they are still loved, valued, and cared for.

These simple acts of kindness take time, effort, and supplies. Every bucket of chopped hay represents someone choosing to show up for a horse who has given so much during their lifetime.

This is what rescue looks like.

Sometimes it’s medicine. Sometimes it’s a warm stall. Sometimes it’s a vet bill.

And sometimes… it’s simply chopping hay for an old friend.
