While we are waging a new battle for their protection, the Salt River wild horses themselves are waging some battles as well! Check it out!

Bobby and Silver are fighting over two mares. Silver even left his own mares in order to steal Bobby’s mares! It appears that none other than Rascal has his mares now.

While it may seem vicious, Salt River wild horses rarely hurt eachother badly, and both stallions are just fine. We just cannot imagine these horses, any other way than this, wild and free!

We’ve been able to keep them that way by working with and compromising with both government agencies for a long time, but now, their future is unsure again, as removals are being mandated in the new long term plan and the roundup contractor, believe it or not, is applying for our contract!! This battle is going to be fierce!

Update: The new RFP is not out yet, but we hear that it will be soon. After that, there are 2 weeks for the bidders to put their proposals in, then the AZDA will likely take a few weeks to decide.
Did you know that the Salt River wild horses are only allowed to live on 0.06% of the Tonto National Forest? The rest of the TNF has no horses on it. (but plenty of grazing allotments ofcourse.)
