These two Salt River wild horses lost their beloved band mate, Aquarius. After grieving beside her body, the lead stallion Jake finally walked away—turning around and calling back to her the entire time, hoping she would rise and follow. Their pain is unmistakable. Wild horses are so bonded to each other, so social and sentient, and they mourn just like we do.
