This rescued mustang seems determined to become a wild horse again!

This rescued BLM mustang “Elvis” escaped in Usery Park, during one of his training sessions, and he seemed determined to become a wild horse again!
After many attempts by many horse back riders to bring him home safely were unsuccessful, his owners Natalie Ries and Joshua Aguilar asked for our help, which we were glad to offer at no cost, except for the cost of the sedation and reversal drugs. ($100)

Our certified darter Destini and veteranarian Jenn dropped what they were doing and went to help immediately. They did a great job darting and securing Elvis! Once he succumbed to the sedation, the halter was put on him, after which the reversal drug woke him right back up again. Once awake he was ponied safely back to the horse trailer!

This method was a lot safer than chasing him around for days, or even losing him forever. Elvis would not have made it outthere very much longer since he was not near any water. (Elvis is not a Salt River wild horse, but a wild horse from BLM land.)

We’re sorry that you can’t become a wild horse again Elvis, but you are lucky to have caring owners and a caring horse trainer!

We hope Elvis will give people another chance, and people will give Elvis another chance too. We can only imagine and try to understand all that Elvis has lost. He has been chased for miles by helicopters and has been seperated from his family and all that he knew, by men with whipsticks.

He may have been a lead stallion in his wild life and he might think about his family every day. He will see people as his enemie, until a very good trainer shows him the opposite. Mustangs need very low pressure and very patient training. We are wishing Elvis, his trainer and his owners a lot of luck and all good vibes!
