The fire yesterday delayed us a little, but now it is time for the name suggestions for the latest and cutest addition to the Salt River Herd!

This new Salt River baby is a spunky healthy filly, she is out of 5 yr old mare Nichy sired by 9 yr old lead stallion Luna (or his official name : Indian Prince). This baby is a first offspring for both parents and they are both so very sweet and fiercely protective over her.

We like to keep names within the theme of the motherline and the fatherline and if it can be combined, even better! That way it’s easy to remember their bloodlines years later.

However, this can get pretty tricky because so many great names are already taken for the lunar theme, because of the late patriarch Moon.
Ideally we would like the name to start with either an L or an N or end in Chy or Y, or both.

The Nichy name is of japanese origin and means Child of joy.

So as you can see it’s not going to be easy!

All suggestions will be taken into account. This is only the first step, and the second step to this process is that we will pick 3 of our favorites, after which we will post a full public vote of the 3 best name suggestions!

For those of you interested in bloodlines here is her lineage:

The sire line is out of Luna (officially named Indian Prince) who is out of Indian Princess and Diego. (both of them very old, but still alive.)

The motherline is a long one, Nichy is out of Sachy x Biff, Sachy is out of Marjoram x Cisco, Marjoram is out of Aquarius x Brahms. That’s right Aquarius is a great-great-great grandmother! Aquarius today is with stallion Jake, but she will no longer be having babies.

*keeping track and documenting wild horses like we have done for 3 decades is not easy or cheap, so please give us credit for that whenever you share the information we make public, as your own.

We cannot wait till this sweet one has a beautiful name and please help us pray that she stays safe and grows up wild and free!
