Guess who had a beautiful baby boy!
We are glad that Trista waited until settled in at Nirvana Mustang Sanctuary!
Its a little rainy there, and unfortunately the both of them had to be separated for safety reasons from Tristan because he was not very nice!
If they were still in the wild, Tristan may have rejected the babies and kept the mares, because the babies are not his. We have seen this every now and then with new lead stallions. It is a phenomenon in which they discard DNA that is not theirs. It is why we so often see bachelor stallions try to attack newborns, which always makes us quiver, but then later the same stallions become adoring fathers and protective lieutenants!
Like with Serta, who rejected Rosco when he was born, and then later on was the best dad to subsequent foals, even ones that were not his! We often have seen stallions raise babies that were not theirs also, being great stepdads. So we do not know what the deciding factor is with them. BTW we rescued Rosco when his band left him behind as a newborn and he lives happily with us!
Our team is excited to meet this new little boy next month, yes we are going to Nirvana! (We need to whisper to Tristan that he has to give a better representation of a Salt River wild horse!) We cannot wait to see all of the Alpines we used to watch and document in the wild in the Apache Forest!
How lucky are those Alpines to have a beautiful place to run free again and play in ponds! It’s all thanks to your support!
Thank you for the pics and the great care, Nirvana Mustang Sanctuary!
