As the River Flows: Citrine, AKA “Rascal”

His documentation name is Citrine, and he was born in November 2016. But to his adoring fans, he’ll always be known as “Rascal.” In this video he comes in pawing, which is a behavior to try to impress other stallions. One of the stallions is not impressed. Watch what develops!

Last week, if you recall, we mentioned that we have two complete heterochromia horses in the herd. Sapphire is one, and Citrine/Rascal the other. Blue-eyed horses have long been surrounded by myths, and we’ll let you decide if our Rascal fits any of them.

In some cultures, blue-eyed horses are said to be mystical or exceptionally wise.

Temperament Misconceptions: Others claim that blue-eyed horses are hot-headed and have a knack for finding trouble.

Lets examine some of Rascal’s adventures and see if his life supports any of those legends.
He once led a band of bachelor stallions charging through the Enchanted Forest, kicking up clouds of dust where other bands were peacefully napping. He boldly stole a mare from his own father—only to lose her right back to him. Not long after, he stole a mare from another stallion, surviving the battle with numerous wounds, only to lose all of his mares and collect even more scars along the way.

Then came his first true love, Aquarius. He won her heart in August 2022, but by February 2023, she was gone, leaving Rascal with yet another chapter of heartbreak… and a fresh set of battle wounds.

These days, he is very content with the two beautiful mares in his band, Faith and Billie. But don’t let that fool you. The Rascal still can’t resist a little mischief. He’s often seen charging through the river, splashing water in every direction as he searches for anyone bold enough to accept his challenge.

As for the myths about blue-eyed horses being mystical or wise… well, we’re still scratching our heads trying to come up with a few examples from Citrine/Rascal’s life. If any of you can think of one, be sure to let us know!

Let us know what u think of him in the comments!
