Announcement; the first Salt River foal of 2026!

For centuries, the circle of life has continued in the Tonto National Forest, it’s beautiful, and sometimes also harsh.

This little boy didn’t come into the world easily.

Like Moonfire, his start was uncertain… fragile… the kind that doesn’t always end in a happy story.

But—everything is ok.

Because out here, in our neck of the woods, he wasn’t alone. Our volunteers were watching.

Ready. Showing up—without hesitation—when it matters most. We are greatful for such a great team.

Because the truth is… there are so few foals now.

Every single life matters more than ever.

After a little help, he’s now on his own—wild, free, and exactly where he belongs, with his mom Venus and his big sister Iris!

So please… join us in wishing him strength.

In praying for his safety.

In hoping he gets the beautiful wild and free life, just like his ancestors before him. In hoping he will never be confined, tamed or separated from his family. In Hoping people will respect their space and watch their lives unfold, from a safe distance.
Because he is more than one foal.

He is the future of the Salt River wild horses… still holding on, against all odds.

Thank you for watching and sharing and thank you for supporting humane wild horse management, because all life is precious.

(We tried a new editing software for this video, but unfortunately the music didn’t come through—we hope you’ll still enjoy it and let us know what you think.)
