For Earth Day, let’s examine the claim that wild horses overgraze their habitats…

On Earth Day, let’s examine the claim that wild horses overgraze their habitats, as alleged by the CBD in their lawsuit against the Salt River wild horses.

Observations by thousands of people documenting in real time, show that while horses do eat forage, they don’t destroy it. In fact the daily documentation proves the opposite.

Here you see the day Iris was born, the forage was green everywhere. However, as soon as our Arizona temperatures rise, the forage starts to wither and dry out, as you can see here again barely a month later, with Venus and Iris in the same area.

So, they didn’t eat it all. They didn’t kill it.

We manage their population numbers through humane fertility control PZP already, to keep them in balance with their habitat. You’d think that CBD would be very proud of our amazing success reducing the foal crop from 100 foals per year to just one to three per year.

The real threat to the habitat is the hot Arizona temperatures that dry out the forage. The real threat is the horrendous fire season we have coming up. But there’s not much we can do about that,..or is there?

We can let them continue to reduce the fire danger. It’s time to stop scapegoating wild horses, and appreciate them for the million dollar job they do, preventing forest fires!

They are stewards of the land, spreaders of live seeds, depositors of free fertilizer, and treasures of Arizona!

HAPPY EARTH DAY!!
